Fathers' Schedule

This is a timetable of a typical week-day for a cloister monk at the Charterhouse of the Transfiguration. In grey are the conventual Offices in the Chapel.

Matins, Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers and Complines name the Offices which punctuate the day, about every two hours. Each canonical Office is accompanied (either preceeded or followed) by the Office of Our Lady, the Virgin Mary.

11:30pm	Rise
11:45pm	In cell	Matins of the Blessed Virgin
12:15am	To Church	Night Office : Matins followed by Lauds - Lasts between 2 and 3 hours
	On return to cell	Lauds of the Blessed Virgin; to bed
6:30am	Rise
6:45am	In cell	Prime - Prayer or spiritual reading from scripture
7:45am	To Church	Angelus
7:45am	In Church	Conventual mass
	On return to cell	Free time - Spiritual reading (Lectio Divina) and study
10:00am	In cell	Terce
10:45am	Study or Manual Work	No manual work before Terce. It can be done morning and afternoon, or all at once.
11:45am	Angélus - Sext	Recitation of the Office of Sext
	Meal- Recreation	The time of recreation may be employed freely. reading, working, gardening, or enjoying the sun.....when it shines.
2:00pm	None	Recitation of the Office of None - Reading and study
3:15pm	Manual Work (1hr)	The time accorded to each depends on the individual in negociation with his Superior. (Prior or Novice Master)
4:00pm	Vespers of Our Lady	Praise to God with the Virgin Mary.
4:15pm	In church once a week	Office of the Dead
4:45		Free time
5:00pm	To Church	Vespers
	On return to cell	Free time - light evening meal
7:00pm	Angélus - Compline	Recitation of Complines, the last Office of the day.
8:00pm	Bedtime	Advisable before 8:15pm.
